Team Brief

Reshaping for the Future

Belfast Met is just 11 months away from its transition to a fit-for-purpose, focused on the future organisation.

We’ve been keeping you updated as the Reshaping for the Future programme progresses and will continue to do so as it gathers momentum in the weeks to come.

Belfast Met is in a great position and there are plenty of opportunities ahead. But there’s also plenty of challenges.

We are beginning this academic year with a £2.6 million funding cut and further year-on-year cuts are practically inevitable. Competition is growing, skills demands are constantly changing and the policy landscape is forever shifting. In fact, consultation on DEL’s critical new FE Strategy has just come to a close. When finalised the strategy and subsequent implementation plan will set the context against which Belfast Met operates.

The opportunities exist for us to step up and meet these challenges, while at the same time successfully anticipating and planning for what might be coming down the track.

Belfast Met is built on solid foundations. We are a ‘Good’ college and have the potential to be a truly ‘Great’ college. That means great for our students, our business and community partners, our funders but also for all of us as employees.

By the deadline of September 2016, we will have a new structure with the current nine schools merging to five schools. We will have a refreshed curriculum, updated corporate strategies across all key areas (curriculum, estate, people, IT, stakeholder etc), revised processes, and staff development programmes to help support and guide us on our journey to excellence.

The deadline may be tight but it is absolutely achievable. We know exactly where we are headed and are crystal clear on how we are going to get there. Have a look at the video link below for an example of the tried and tested change management process that Belfast Met is following.

Remember also to keep your eye out for the weekly Reshape Bulletin. This contains news on all the latest developments and will help answer some of your more general questions and concerns.

You’ll find back issues of each of the Bulletins, as well as a chronological list of all the Q&As we’ve covered to date on the Reshaping for the Future section of the Intramet.
